Information Commons, University of Sheffield

Opened in September 2007, a "leading flagship" in learning resources centre and information commons. Greenroom IKM were commissioned to undertake the full mechanical, public health and electrical design which evolved around fresh ideas within an open flexible environment. Our practice also provided site monitoring and reporting.

This bold architectectural design required innovatice building services design, although sustainable/renewable design was not forgotten. They include grey water systems, solar heat gains, north lights reducing glare and daylight controlled lighting throughout.

The services design allowed for future expansion but included for 1300 student study spaces, 500 network PC's and 100,000 reference books. Building Services flexibility was requested and provided to the delight of the client.
