Denholm Primary School
Greenroom IKM were commissioned to carry out the mechanical, public health and electrical services design for the lead community primary school for the village of Denholm in the Scottish Borders. Working directly for Scottish Borders Council, as the client and architect, this naturally ventilated building works well in its surroundings.
Sustainability and low energy usage was a key factor, a ground source heat pump serving the underfloor heating system serves the spaces well. As a renewable heat source, the ground source heat pump allows the school to reduce the energy bills. Two other sustainable elements were also designed and installed, namely solar panels providing electrical energy and a grey water distribution network.
Greenroom IKM also completed the energy performance certificate (EPC) with an impressive overall rating of B+.
